Lowrider History

Lowrider bikes first appeared in the 1960's in America. It was started by 'Custom King' George Barris who customised automobiles. Kids would copy his work, but on their bikes, keeping the cost a little lower than customising cars.

Schwinn was the first company to launch a lowrider bike in the form of the Sting-Ray. It resembled the highly popular trend on the 60's for customising cars. Now bikes had become more than just a form of transport, they were now fun.

George Barris was the first to customise the Sting-Ray and had them featured in the Munsters. Eddie Munster's bike was the must have item of the time.

BMX bikes hit the scene soon after, and the trend shifted to these, but the Lowrider returned in the 70's when Mexicano kids started to customised their bikes more than ever before.

In the UK, lowriders have never been easy to get hold of, but times are changing and thanks to Ridelow, the lowrider bike is here now, ready to buy, ready to customise and ready to be riden.... low!
