Features

1.Historic racing frame with dynamic riding position: Authentic 1930s Path Racer frame with a long stable wheelbase and relaxed steering geometry, suited to  speed cycling and gravel racing! With traditional frame-mounted race number plate. The frame is hand-built using 100 year old traditional methods - with original lightweight Reynolds 531 tubing hand-brazed into lugs - for the attention to detail that only a frame crafted by hand can possess. With traditional tubular crown forks and specially formed D section stays.

2.Semi-drop classic racing handlebars: Swept-back, high-strength stainless steel bar for confident handling whilst racing. Finished with GB anti-slip diamond patterned silcone back handlebar tape.

3.Brass ‘ping’ Bell: A classic bell that is a refined addition to any bicycle. The bell has a domed shape body with a simple sprung finger mechanism that sounds out a clear ‘ting’ to let others know you're approaching.  The bell can be attached to either the handlebars or the stem.

4.Classic 5 speed hub Gears: With an easy-shift gear lever, they allow you to tackle hills and glide along gracefully on flatter terrain with ease. Fully enclosed gear system that requires minimal maintenance.

5.Powerful fully-enclosed hub brakes: hub-brakes provide reliable stopping power come rain or shine (90mm front, 70mm rear). Enclosed and sealed from all-weathers, these brakes are low maintenance and robust.

6.Classic tyres with puncture protection: a reliable tyre with a puncture protection insert, and a tread design that allows for secure contact with the road surface but with a low rolling resistance.

7.Traditional Brooks 'Swift' leather saddle: The handsome 'Swift' is a gentleman's racing saddle with delicately hand-skived lower sides for greater comfort whilst pedalling. The leather allows the saddle to breathe and form to your shape over time becoming uniquely comfortable. It's finished with large hand-beaten copper rivets, and comes with handy loops on the rear for luggage attachment.

8.Compact double-sided pedals with large tooth profile: the well-defined tooth profile provides great grip, keeping feet securely in place and helping to transfer your pedal-power more efficiently. The pedals are made with cold forged Japanese steel axles and a hand-adjusted cup and cone bearing system. [please note that the toe clips and straps are currently unavailable]

9.Golden half-link chain: eye catching design and tough construction to transfer powerful cadence.

FAQ

Why choose a Pashley cycle?

Pashley bicycles and tricycles are manufactured by skilled craftsmen, who use traditional methods to create work of the highest standard. Our designs focus on comfort, strength and durability; it is not in our ethos to produce fragile frames or specify complex, delicate components unnecessarily. We also believe that cycles should be a pleasure to use, and practical enough to integrate smoothly with everyday life. A Pashley cycle allows its rider to sit up comfortably, enjoying the view while any bags or shopping are carried safely and easily. In addition, Pashley is committed to UK manufacture and all the benefits this brings to customers, suppliers and dealers, and to our own employees.

Why do Pashley make bicycle frames from steel?

Although steel is sometimes regarded as ‘old-fashioned’, it is actually an excellent material for building bicycle frames. High tensile steels have far greater ultimate strength and stiffness values than aluminium alloy or titanium alloy; in fact, some modern steels have higher strength-to-weight ratios than aluminium and titanium. Steel responds well in fatigue conditions, and is able to withstand the repeated stress typically placed on a bicycle frame much more effectively than aluminium. If scratched or subject to minor impacts, steel is also fairly ‘forgiving’, in contrast to highly notch-sensitive carbon-fibre materials, which are more likely to fail following minor damage. Used intelligently, steel can be used to build great frames for all cycling disciplines. Specifically, a steel cycle frame can impart a better ‘feel’ and ride comfort than its aluminium equivalent.

Why do Pashley use hub gears for many of their cycles?

Hub gears may seem unusual in a world dominated by derailleur gears, but it is actually a very efficient system with a number of unique benefits. Unlike derailleurs (where the gear sprockets are exposed), all the mechanisms of hub gears are enclosed in a weather-resistant alloy shell, ensuring consistent reliability in all conditions. This also means that the gearing is not affected by the mud and grime thrown up from the road, which in turn means less maintenance is required than with an external derailleur system that can get clogged up over time. In addition, one little-known benefit of hub gears is the ability to change gear without pedalling. For instance, you can change into a lower gear whilst sat at a red light, without worrying about damaging the gears or having your chain come off. Hub gears are therefore ideal for town and country riding, allowing you to tackle all manner of terrain.
